Nags Head Oct. 2020

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic, we hosted another successful Fall trip to the Outer Banks. We all agreed to precautions to avoid getting sick, including shopping locally, and bringing food from home for the first few days. The one restaurant where we ate on premises was the OBX Fishing Pier - the staff wore masks and it was open air, otherwise we ordered take-out.

Three distant hurricanes either brought wind, or killed the wind. Fortunately they mostly brought wind. Our group had 11 days of sailing in the first two weeks. Peggy & I extended our stay as Tropical Storm Zeta brought exceptional conditions with three days of continuous on-shore wind.

We have additional trips planned for May & October 2021.

Sunday Nov 8 2020 East Wind

The weekend of Nov 7-8, 2020 brought a couple of days of relatively warm east winds. Windsurfer, windfoilers, kiters and wingfoilers gathered to enjoy the 10-20 mph breezes and temps warm enough that some wore shorties.

Fall Classic 2020

Despite COVID-19 restrictions, water pollution issues and everything else Mother Nature threw our way, we kept the streak alive and held the 42nd Annual Fall Classic Oct 25, 2020. An abbreviated Sunday only event, we still were able to get 2 races off in a light northern breeze in warm conditions for late October. Most participants wore only a shorty or went without.

We are all looking forward to keeping the streak alive next year! Our thanks to Chris Voith for organization; and Debi Baber and David Wade for support. Much appreciation to the Lake Lanier Sailing Club for hosting us. And thanks to our perennial sponsors, Sandy Point Progressive Sports (Aerotech Sails, Epic Gear, Exocet & Kona), who have been consistent sponsors for years. Thanks, Steve, Marty and Cody. Trophies and shirts by Chris Voith. Regatta themed masks by Bill Herderich.

Oct 24-25 42nd Annual Fall Classic Regatta Covid Edition

Because of possible water contamination issues, we are postponing to the weekend of Oct 24-25. We apologize for any inconvenience but we want to keep every one safe.

Keeping the tradition and our streak alive! The Atlanta Fall Classic is the longest running windsurfing event in the country– 2020 marks 42 years! We haven't been stopped by hurricanes (Michael 2018) nor will Murder Hornets of 2020 stop us. However, we heard there was a bug going around so we'll be doing things a bit differently this year...
