Monday Foiling - There's always a thread like this on Seabreeze or NW-Windsurf so why not? William and I foiled today at Tidwell. I was early and grabbed my 5.0, he was tardy and had to use a 6.7*. I had to leave early for a dentist apt, but William carried on strong in my absence. For me today was better than yesterday because I never stated out overpowered on the 6.0 and then had to waste time rigging down. Amazingly, for 2 days in a row I've worn a wetsuit in August and it felt fine.
Wind Patrol - Wednesday is a maybe. Windfinder's Super Forecast and IWindsurf are showing some 10-15 type winds Wednesday pm. NOAA say "noway - try 5-5", however. So go and get skunked or skip it and hear how much fun it was.
*Of course, he might have used the 6.7 anyway.

Yes, he would have.
One thing that I've found the last couple of days is how a foil just shrinks the lake. I just feel like I can point and shoot almost any direction and worry a lot less about the wind coming off. Today, it was pretty stiff and I was able to crank it upwind and then do jibe practice. More to the point, I discovered new and interesting ways of terminating a jibe including touching down and stopping the board from about 15-20 mph during the sail flip . The result was a lot like this:
I ended up about 10 ft in front of the board. I would have loved to have seen a video. Well, at least the water is warm (no neoprene- just a wind shirt). Randy and all the 2nd generation foilers are doing so well. I'm a bit jealous as I spent the first six months getting my ass kicked over and over.
Edit: Latest model runs confirming Randy's Wed hypothesis
At last, a reboot of the Randy Report!
Fun times looking at that old page.

Regarding your new jibe-launch trick, I've been wondering about ordinary windsurf jibes with a foil. You know the kind I normally do on a w/s board where I enter the jibe planing and then exit shlogging (in theory planing, but I've never actually done that). Any reason that wouldn't work with a foil attached, but not flying. Or is this just asking for a mouth full of water? Or worse - a foil wing stuck in the side of your head?
I'm a long ways away from even thinking about foiling jibes but this might be easier than my usual flogging jibes and tacks if it works.
BTW - I had to give up the Randy report. I kept getting sued by guys that didn't have fun when they followed my wind forecast. I said it was because they sucked and used the wrong gear. But they won and there is something called a restraining order that says I can't come within 100 feet of doing a wind forecast.

Sure, that's pretty much the learning sequence. Some key things - it takes more sail movement and make sure you open the sail as you go downwind. It's easy to get backwinded if you stay sheeted in. Don't freak out if you are powered up - the sail pressure actually releases as you go off the wind.
Look for tintin.gwen's videos - they are good. Keep the feet between the straps if you are still on the wing and the foot switch has to be quick.
Foils carve quite easily so no need to stomp on the leeward rail. Just a bit of pressure and swing the sail almost like a longboard jibe. Arms away from you.
It's super easy to come out planing compared to a regular board because it doesn't lose as much speed going downwind. Lastly, think about the jibe as a 90-120 degree turn from offwind to offwind. Try not to do a 180 degree turn.
Finally, practicing foiling jibes is great for your regular jibes. You'll be so busy thinking about board level, etc that you do what you should have done years ago: stop looking at your hands.

Thanks William. Now NOAA is onboard with the dots for tomorrow. Could just be a case of groupthink among all the forecasters though...... BTW - the 60-70 temps no longer going to happen. Upper 80's.

If forcast holds I will pull second shift on the water.
VP?
Take a step back up, bub. My plaintiff's copy of the settlement says 500 ft. I think you're getting a little close there.

Dots are still here this morning. I'm thinking Galts.

Veep later today. Gotta go up to Gville. Randy, if you are going to Tuna, have you tried Windlord's spot on NW?

I drove there once looking for wind, but didn't find any. Kind of way out of the way. Kind of place Ted Kaczynski might build a cabin.
