Rob Douglas had a world record run of 55.65 KNOTS or 64.04 MPH on October 28, 2010 on a Cabrinha Kite.

Wow - I'm not sure, but I think the previous record was around 50kt, so he pretty much crushed the record. Looks like the Yellow Pages crowd is going to be pretty depressed after this - I think they have no chance of beating this with a more conventional sailboat. Given all the trouble and time it took windsurfers to to get close to 50kt, looks like kiting is going to be awfully tough to beat for pure speed.
