Windy Premium Anyone?

$19 per year special. $30 regular. Just wondering if anyone subscribes, and your experience with it. My impression of Windy in general is that it's not all that. Better than Iwindsurf, but on the "day of" I normally go with NWS. Perhaps to my detriment.

We went on a National Geographic cruise in August. They were depending on Windy to help stay ahead on a storm featuring 50 foot swells. It seemed like a good recommendation.

I've considered it just to get the longer history on radar. They do good stuff and some of the best graphical presentations of the major models. As windsporters, we've all wasted money on worse things.

Yeah - like gas driving to the lake when it was a waste of time. Not to mention time.

Interesting reading anyone find the forecasts of wind gusts important to them.

I don’t have premium and not sure if I will get it. But Zi use and trust the free version. It’s more conservative than NWS, predict wind, etc., which is a good thing for me as I would rather miss an occasional decent day than skip
work and other activities only to find out the day was a bust.

I just payed... as much as I've worn out their servers, probably about time.

I've had the paid, Premium edition on my phone for a year now. It's a great addition to the NWS & iWindsurf because it integrates so much information and allows me to zoom out for a large scale view.

Ive found the NWS graphical forecast for Gainesville to be the best single predictor of wind at Lake Lanier. However, as Randy has pointed out, it generally under-forecasts morning East wind.

I mainly use iWindsurf when in the OBX spring & fall. There are many wind gages along the Outer Banks that only report via iWindsurf. In Nags Head there are two nearby wind gages. One is a public site on the ocean at Jeanette's Pier. The other is private on "Jockey's Ridge Sound" (on a platform in Roanoke Sound), NOT the shore Jockey's Ridge gage.

Finally got around to reading this. Seems like a huge factor is gustiness is what's upwind. They talked about comparing smooth onshore air at LAX vs downslope winds at Lander, WY. We are in the lee of the Appalachians a lot of the time (notorious NW) which we've known about for a while.
