Windsurfing in San Francisco

I just returned from visiting my daughter in San Francisco. If you are going to be in the area or desperate for summer wind, Coyote Point State Park, next to the SFO airport, now has rentals on the water through ASD Windsurfing (ASDwindsurfing.com). I had good wind 7 out of 8 days. Every afternoon it cranked up to the 5.5 to 6.0 meter range. Only one day was a bust because the fog rolled in just after I got on the water. I only needed a shorty wetsuit in this area of the Bay. By contrast, launching near the Golden Gate from Crissy Field, the current can be treacherous and the Bay is very cold. The one problem you may run into at Coyote Point is a wind shadow near shore when the wind shifts from the NW to the SW. Out in the Bay there were moderately-sized rolling waves good for surfing and chop hops.

ASD

I concur, Coyote point is a great place to sail from and the owners of ASD are super helpful.
