WINDfest: directions and other details

This could actually be a W-I-N-D fest here at Clark Hill this Saturday! (Sure, could be a r-a-i-n fest, too.)
But, no worries -- flexibility is built into the windfesting program. I have all registrants -- 43 so far (as of Tuesday 2:30)-- on a e-mail group list and I'll keep all informed on changes (per IVAN) as we approach. Fell free to register adn un-register as you see fit. (We're just trying to get a head count for the cookout, parking, mini-clinics, etc.)
Directions from Atlanta are below.

>> Gathering begins at 11:00am. (Cookout Lunch around 1:00pm)
>> Used gear Swap Meet will be ongoing.
>> Racing, if we have enough who want to, will be arranged according to the wind. We have very experienced racemasters who will make it fun and fair in any conditions. Good prizes!
>> Instruction: Land-based mini clinics on harness/footstraps, beachstart/waterstart, planing jibes. (Instruction enhanced w/ on-water demo if we have real wind.)
>> Limited new gear on-water equipment demo will be ongoing
>> Taste-of-Windsurfing for "never-evers" @:2:00pm
>> FIreworks, 9pm, and live-music at nearby Wildwood Park Lakefest. I'll have maps with directions to Wildwood.

Directions: Take I-20 east from Atlanta to exit #183. Go left off exit ramp on Hwy 221 for about 13 miles to Lake Springs Recreation Area entrance. Follow entrance road to the guard house at the very end. Our event is straight ahead from the guard house on Center Point. (Landmarks from I-20: You will pass through Appling with in 3 miles from the interstante and in 6 miles further is Pollards Corner 4-way stop sign at which you continue straight.)

Chris,

Wildwood park, the park where the fireworks & bands are, has 61 campsites, $18 per site, I tried to get in touch wsith them to see about reservations but did not yet get through.

The closest camping is at Wildwood Park, about 7 or 8 minutes away, where the county-sponsored LakeFest was been held. That event is now cancelled. Call (706) 541-0586 (This # is correct, but if you get no response, let me know - Highway #47 (Washington Road)
Amenities: 975 Acres. 1 six mile mountain bike trail, 1 beach area, 2 boat ramps 3 picnic shelters, 3 restroom facilities, 61 camper pads with electrical and water hook ups.

I'll post a message tonight on the WINDfest plans as affected by Ivan.
If you have been planning to come, you need to register. (It's not a commitment.) I've been sending the finer details to those registered in e-mails directly to them. Bring drinks and gear to sail on

Hey Chris,

It's Jay from Charleston, SC. What's this windfest thing? Our Longboard fellas, including Stanger ,are thinking about forming a class at Augusta SClub's Oct 14? HALLOWEEN REGATTA. Plenty of FREE camping and dinners and breakfast both days. You guys want to meet and do some retro racing?
