Wind Forecasts for Friday and Sat. 10-14 and 10-15

Suddenly some of the forecasts are calling for some nw (10-20) wind to show up on Friday and Sat. Biggrin Most of the models don't seem so convinced, but here's hoping. If it pans out looks like I'll be heading for Van Pugh in the pm.

Hmmm,

Rome (GA) is showing N14G21 at 12:00. Maybe something really is coming our way. Glen Burns mentioned on the radio this AM that a week cold front is coming through.

I got out of bed and loaded up the van last night when the WX channel said 15-25 for Atlanta. I was then disappointed in the morning to see 5-10 instead. I'm hoping with ya Randy.

Gainesville has been steadily climbing all afternoon and is now showing NW10. The forecasts show 12 to 15 NNW before sunset so I'm leaving work soon and heading for Van Pugh. If Friday afternoon traffic doesn't hose up the plan I should be there by 4:30.

I stopped by Gene's for Christmas in October on the way to Van Pugh, so I didn't make it until after 5:00. I haven't figured out the conversion from MPH to sail size yet, so you'll need to do your own estimates.

11 to 12 MPH when I arrived; increasing to 14 and gusting to 18 by the time I got rigged. It dropped off a couple of times while I was sailing, then started to pick up again around sunset. By the time I derigged and got loaded it was over 18 and gusting over 22. Wind speeds measured standing on the bank.

Sailing was great. The new 70cm fin made a big difference in the board's performance. It was also my first attempt ever at using a harness. I'm definitely looking forward to mastering this skill. It was quite a relief on the arms to just hook in for 15 or 20 seconds. Of course, I was glad I had a helmet on for one of the wilder tumbles. Blum 3

Let's hope the wind carries over into Saturday.
