Where would you live if....

Hey everyone...Let me launch one on 'ya. I'm relocating to the coast for a change...started out looking at Charleston because I have family there...But where would you live if you take everything into account? I need to consider customers for my carpentry business...OBX would be nice, but could I survive? It's also isolated...And please don't post the romantic stuff-unless you've lived on an island in the middle of winter with sideways rain and locals that don't know what to do but drink...it's not all that rosy. I've done that...there has to be some metro area around..I'm open to suggestions (preferably based on experience)..Station 29's glory has washed out....I'm thinking St. Simons? What about further south? North? Thanks in advance...John

Check out New Bern NC - if you visit, I bet you may seriously consider moving there. The residential building economy here is very strong due to retirees looking for 2nd and retirement homes near the coast. And, thee area is surrounded by water!

I use to have a spreadsheet with average monthly wind speeds for cities all over the US and Corpus Cristi looked about the best. It's speeds were like hatteras but didnt have the cold winter, Cape Cod had more wind but you couldnt sail 6 months out of the year. Corpus is also a decent size city, not too big, not too small.

I've only been there twice and had good times both times, Barrett Walker is the man concerning Corpus, his son used to live there and he vistied and sailed there often.'

Thanks fellas...I'm still here working and saving...I think I have a working gig lined up for St. Simons that would let me check that area out. I really appreciate the suggestions! John
