Where to Go

Hey guys and gals.

Just moved down here (Montgomery AL) from North Carolina, looking for areas where people winfsurf. I am a formula sailor and my largest sail is a 11.6 and a 70 cm fin so light winds (10mph) would not be a problem. The problem is water depth and where. I'm thinking about heading somewhere around the panhadle coast for a day trip or even Mobile Bay.
Does anyone know a good launch area and what are you preferance.

Thanks in advance

Rey,
For that kind of kit, your only option is the Gulf: Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Mobile Bay - if you want to sail with others. There are plenty of lakes in AL but not many windsurfers. We hear occasional reports but most of the AL windsurfing is either on the top along the TN river (some great spots - can be almost Gorge like in places in a good blow. Long fetch, opposing current, barges) or the bottom. Montgomery is also about 1 1/2 hours from West Point lake where you'll have company (on GA border) and closer I think to Lake Martin which has some really open water.

There are places near you, but again, not very populated.
