Weiss Lake Alabama

Just curious about Lake Weiss in Cedar Bluff, Alabama. I went there on business today and was impressed with how large a fetch any wind direction would have on this body of water. Has anyone sailed here? Any acess points? I could be wrong (and often am) but it looked wide open for the SW wind that was blowing there today. I have to be in Chattanooga tomorrow and was wondering if there is anyplace to sail while I am there. Anyone have any Chattanooga sailing knowledge more than what is on the website? Thanks, Trey

Welcome to Chattanooga. On north or northwest we usually sail from the boat ramp at the Chickamauga Dam park on the lake side. Wind forcast for today looks a little iffy. If it starts blowing pretty good I may get "sick" & leave work early. To get there from I75 take hwy 153 north. Get off at the Chickamauga Lake exit, right at the end of the exit ramp, go to the end of that road & turn left, then go until it dead ends at the boat ramp parking lot. If it blows I'll see you there.

WEISS LAKE ALABAMA

there is a posting for Weiss Lake on the windsurfing index, p. 7
if you need help getting there click on view all categories, then click on windsurfing, page numbers at the bottom of the page
for sure you don't have to be thinking about someone running over you at Weiss

Linda, thanks for the report on Weiss. I have been there just driving around and wondering about it...

About Chattanooga: Rick, if you are reading this or anyone else, is there a windsurf club up there and does the club have a website??? There must be more information about safe places to sail and where to launch. Thanks for the info!

Trey, hope you got to sail somewhere yesterday. We had a pretty decent afternoon, around 20mph most of the afternoon. Gusty, but it always is.

Jibes, no club here in Chattanooga. There are only 4 or 5 of us that I know of. I guess you guys are the closest club to us. Actually, I went on a Hatteras trip with some of your folks back in the fall, so maybe we're ABC north. I check out this forum fairly often so if you're ever headed this way & need some info post it here & I'll help if I can.

Years ago, I sailed at Booker T. Washington State park above Chickamauga Dam. SW was the ideal direction there as I recall. The wind was pretty good as it was funnelled through the surrounding hills. Privateer Yacht club is across the way from BTWashington. It is a hotbed of Snipe sailors.

Thanks for all the info. I am in sales, and cant be where the wind is all the time. I find myself in Chattanooga, Birmingham and Northern Alabama. I didnt get a chance to sail. I actually made it back to Lanier just in time to recieve a phone call to pick up my daughter from daycare. Thanks in advance everyone who answered. Trey
