Great session today at Old Federal. Emilio, Khalil, Jay and I did a late afternoon kite session (4:30 - 7:30). I think Joe, Greg and maybe some others where there earlier in the day. There were also 3 Windsurfers out (Konrad, David and Mr. Henderson). The holes seemed to fill in as the afternoon went on. At around 6pm it was ideal if not a bit overpowered for 11 sqm bow kite and a small board.

Hopefully all the forecasted wind for later in the week will come to pass....

We had a big turnout at Van Pugh on L. Lanier. I'm guessing there were around twenty windsurfers. Conditions were perfect with sun, water 64F water, and onshore Northwest wind. The wind picked up during the afternoon with the ideal sail size decreasing from 7.0m to 6.0m.

A gust from an overnight thunderstorm knocked down a number of trees fronting the Lake. Clean up crews were clearing debris and logs when we arrived. Luckily there was no long-term damage other then a loss of shade along the shore.

Must be the kiting gods and their desire to make Van Pugh a Lake Lanier kiting destination.... Wink Did it leave us any room to launch over there on a West or NW day with the water level high?

All joking aside, I heard there was a 100 mph microburst in Hall county that night which damaged a lot of houses. A scary scenario as a kiter.... I'm assuming it was during a thunderstorm which would have precluded anyone from being on the water had it happened during the day.
