Vann Pugh Report

Saturday was good, but alittle frustrating for me on a 4.7 due to inconsistencies and ugly chop from the continual wind shifts. Had I started two or three hours later it would have been much finer. Last night and this AM my back was so tight and sore I was was dubious whether I do a session today. I went back anyway and I'm so glad I did. Today with a 5.8 and 8'11" Seatrend, it was about as good as it gets, absent any huge ramps. About nine sailors out plus, late I saw someone sail up who must have launched from across the lake and/or downwind - could not identify.

Did CV sail over from the club?

I was up in the mtns watching the bike race so didn't make today. It was windy up there, for sure. Reading accounts of yesterday's race, if you thought it was blustery and cold, imagine what it was like for those waiting 5 hrs up on Brasstown Bald for the riders to come up.

The wind shifts Sat were pretty big - 30 degrees at a time. NW and then almost SW. The chop was all over the place- glad to know I wasn't imagining it. Was it reflections off the shore and sea walls with the lake so high? The swell really didn't organize, despite the fact the 5.0 was pretty powered up at times. Just chop coming from odd directions. I'd look to see if it was a boat wake but there really wasn't any traffic, either.

Good to be out on a 5.0 when the temps were above 55 though. And like Chris, I was a little achy this morning.

Interesting the wind direction was so variable at Lanier. I thought it was just the usual psycho wind at Galts. I called McCollum and they ended their message with "Wind direction variable from 270 to 340" - that's a lot of wind shift.

Saturday was sweet for me. Got there at 4 and the first hour was like you all said. Then it steadied up with great ramps. 5.5 was a tad big. I launched at VP and went exploring to LLSC and Old Fed and back... a little gusty behind that long island chain. Jumpmeister Spreeno and I sailed 'til around 6:30. Great day.
