Van Pugh Report 6/8

Lots of wind! Biggrin Marcel and I were on 6.4. Well powered most of the time, but at times I had to sit out the gusts. Dirol As much wind as some of those days in January, but the air was 30-40 degrees warmer and the water was close to 80!

Many peeps call Bil H. the "Lord of Wind", but now I think the title should go to Barrett as he was sailing an 8.3 when I was barely hanging onto my 6.4.

Yes, definitely a nice summer day with WIND. I didn't get there until it had slowed down some, but four of us were on the water until 7:30.

Hard to believe how great Lanier was yesterday. Van Pugh had a warm onshore wind from the NW that just kept building through the afternoon. With a wimpy forecast I left the house with my 129 Liter board & 8.3 meter sail hoping for enough breeze to get on a plane. Yesterday I discovered that with enough downhaul, I could hang onto my 8.3 meter sail in 25 mph winds. What a fun day at the Lake.

Where can I windsurf at Lake Lanier?

I apologize for attaching to your thread, but I figured I'd more likely get a quicker answer.

I'd like to windsurf at Lake Lanier, tomorrow. What location(s) can I go to?

Thank you

Sat looks like a west or west-north west, so Van Pugh is probably the best bet. If you look over to the left you will see a place on the ABC web page called "Knowledge". Under that click on "Places to sail". Its got the locations listed along with info on best wind direction.

I sailed at LLSC with my new 6.5 Ezzy Infinity from Windsense-- very nice, thanks Gene. When the wind backed off I tried the Nova (that Windsense loaned for teaching the juniors, thanks again to Gene) with a 9.9 and big fin. Pretty cool raging around with nary a whitecap in sight.

That board is awesome for teaching. With a little center skeg and small fin, it is very stable but still very responsive and turny. The kids had a great time. I gave 10-15 of them a quick lesson and a turn going out & back. 20 more were ready to give it a try, but we ran out of daylight. For the bigger kids, my 4.5 worked well and the smaller ones used the 2.7 Hotsail on loan from William (thanks Webguy!).

6/9 Report

I went back on Friday for more fun. I got there late afternoon and found almost no wind. I started to go home, but figured I would go practice my tacks since I didn't feel like battling traffic. (good suggestion C.P.)

I thought I might get stranded or run over a couple of times with no wind and lots of big boats, but the wind started to pick up and shift to the NW. By 6:15 it was blowing a steady 12 to 15, with some stronger gusts. I wasn't full-bore planing all the time, but was hooked in and moving nicely with the 7.9 on the EquippeII. I stayed out until after 8:00. A beautiful, sunny day and good fun !
