Van Pugh, 1/09, WIND ADVISORY

Wind Advisory in effect from 11 am this morning to 7 PM EST this evening...

Looks like another WINDY day. I plan to sail Van Pugh this afternoon. Hope to be there around noon.

Gene

What does that mean?

A LOW LEVEL JET OF 35 TO 45 MPH WINDS JUST OFF THE SURFACE WILL APPROACH NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA THIS AFTERNOON AS AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MOVES EASTWARD. NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 20 TO 25 MPH...WITH GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING OVER NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA.
A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20 TO 35 MPH OR WIND GUSTS OF AT LEAST 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING (and windsurfing) DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
USE EXTRA CAUTION

This Wind Advisory is brought to you by the National Weather Service and WINDSENSE Windsurfing, Atlanta's Windsurfing Shop.

I'm thinking about Galt's today, instead of VP. Maybe about 1-2. The forcast is stronger than yesterday's (5.4) and I don't think I can keep my Titan 135 on the water on a smaller sail and in VP's chop. -Bill H.

hi guys, I left a pair of neoprene arms at VP yesterday afternoon on the bench outside the lavatories. If anyone finds them, I would be grateful if you could pick them up for me.

Thanks, Jon 651-325-7774

I may have to get a set of booms and bring out the Screamer with these conditions and no kiting buddies.... Seriously though, anyone have a set of booms that could accommodate 1.65 to 1.85m. I'm hoping that my sails haven't rotted...

Gene, Fantastic! That Pro Line 137 - 198 sounds like the ticket. Can you bring it with you today? I can't afford to spend much on a second water hobby... Smile

Bill,

I'm planning on going to Galts as well.

Another great day:

16:53 NW 17 G 32
15:53 W 22 G 32
14:53 W 18 G 26
13:53 W 21 G 28
12:53 W 17 G 26
11:53 W 17 G 24

It was kind of cold and gusty, but it sure was windy, sail sizes were 5.5 down to 4.4, we had about 5 sailors, it was WILD.

Mel did come out into the light for awhile, but was drawn back to the darkside at the end.

Galt's was good too. Had four sailors there (Patrick K., Al L., Randy F. and myself) from about 1:30-5:00. Sails were about 5.5-6.5. It was gusty but the water was nice and flat. Had many nice planning runs and quite a few good (dry) jibes.

Thanks for the hospitality and company the last couple of days. It was fun to get out there with you guys.

I will have to admit that I found the light side to be harder both skill wise and physically, especially if you don't have your harness lines tuned correctly.... It will take me quite a while to be able to do jibes like you guys do nearly every time.

The dark side is nearly effortless by comparison. You just hook in and go. Your arms just kind of guide the kite. Gene thanks for the launch. It was neat to be able to do a bit of both sports in one afternoon with great wind.

Oh and Gene, I appreciate the cheap booms too!!!

Beware Speedsailer - don't look into the darkness, or you might get seduced by it. Look at Gene, one a true Jedi, now a Sith in training.
