US Olympic team practice in France

from Noah Lyons:
Just finished our first training block here in Marseille!
As we near the test event, the team is participating in some coaches regattas (more casual, practice racing) to tune everybody up. This is a great opportunity to see where we are compared to the international fleet. We just finished a coaches regatta which was an invite only event targeted to the top 40 sailors in the world.
I had some great moments like numerous top 3 mark roundings, but then some bad moments like a collision with the current gold medalist which resulted in the hole in my board you can see in the picture ?‍? (apologies have been made and we are still good friends ??) It’s all part of the game we play.
Compared to some of these veteran sailors with 10+ years of campaigning, I’m like a toddler in terms of experience and am learning so much with every single day of training. The most important thing I’ve learned from this initial coaches regatta (aside from not causing collisions with legends in the sport ?) is that I have everything I need to play with the best in the world in all conditions, and I’m not even close to peak performance yet.
We have another coaches regatta beginning tomorrow, and I’m planning to show the fleet just how far the American team has come.
As always, thanks everybody for the support in getting me this far. It takes an army and I’m grateful to every single person who’s helped me get to where I am today.

The replay tracking thing- cool.
I didn’t know the course is so short and untactical.

Slalom. Noah is really good and fast in that. His challenge will be to stay at that level when they course race. His slalom skills are what have put him in the gold fleet in at least one very large regatta recently.

Speaking of Olympics, I was reminded of this today. It still cracks me up?

Noah finished 12th. His marathon races weren't up to the standard of the rest of his races which is a shame because he probably would have done well in the finales. Still a really good result and he knows where he has to improve. Young Grae Morris from Oz punched through to a top 4.

Dominique Stater of the US did a 17th which is really good as she's young and will only get better and stronger. Probably more time in Europe against faster competition will help.

All the men were over early in the first final race. Lol
