Live report at Vanns, 10:45: steady wind, some Whitecaps. I will probably rig 6.4 and small wing, as thats the smallest sail I brought - otherwise a solid 5.2 wind!
My self-esteem feels better after seeing the Gilmer reports. Very gusty today 10 to 20+. Had a blast as the water was very flat and it was easy to push things without worrying so much about blowing up.
Barrett got his foil wet. Both Chrises came as did Langdon and Ed. Gene and Hamdi did Vanns
Ed and I sailed until about 8.
Very nice evening, water was flat and it did not take much pumping of the 8.2 to get up on the wing.
Ed was cooking right along. I could not keep up with him
I got my foil out this afternoon for first flight. The hardest part was finding a way to carry the board with sail attached. Chris V. saw me struggling and gave me a hand getting to the water. I'm using the 1100 mm Moses wing. I'll have to get some tips from Hamdi on how to carry the assembled gear to the water. My biggest accomplishment was getting up on the foil without getting hurt, or damaging the gear (there are a lot of very sharp edges on the foils & mast).
I did best when the wind was about 12 mph. Less, and I had to pump. More, and I had to sheet out. This gear handles differently than the Slingshot boards & foil I tried for an afternoon last Spring in the Outer Banks. Maybe it seemed easier there because, even though it's shallower, the water was smoother and the wind steadier. Also, I'd been windsurfing for over a week and was in better windsurfing shape. What's good is the Moses wing lifts up with surprisingly little wind. Despite being cautious, I crashed twice. Once by inadvertently turning too far downwind, and once by flying too high in an effort to clear a boat wake.
Now I have gear to make the most of low-wind summer conditions. Thanks to William, Chris & Hamdi for tips on getting started.
So I guess it is official - Atlanta windsurfing is now dead. Now that Barrett has been "converted" the foil virus has now infected the nearly all of the windsurfing crowd in Atlanta. Hopefully if there are any remaining holdouts they will shelter in place at a secret windsurfing spot to avoid exposure to the virus.

Barrett finally succumbed to peer pressure?

Yeah, so if you want to talk him into jumping off a cliff with you, now would be a pretty good time.
I’m in.
Early seems like a better idea than later.Going wherever Barrett goes.I am hoping to go to Vanns around 11, likely finish up by 2ish.
Bunch of moisture moving in from SE. I'm going to watch this one for a while.
Eager to get my new foil in the water, but waiting until approaching rain passes through.

Noon, at Vanns tavern, sort of, almost, kind of capping, going to rig 6.0 on foil. Hamdi getting some rides. Almost, kind of, sort of raining.

Van Pugh around 2? The rain should be letting up by then.

If there is any wind around 5 I will join who ever is still there

What? No "action" shots? Like a good NASCAR fan, I came here for the carnage!

Mr. B, Great shot - your personal Kitty Hawk! Look at that water - who would have thought a few years ago that it was full on 6.5 conditions?
