Tuesday 8-13

Models are looking up for an AM easterly (10-15, but could be better if recent history is a guide). Biggrin I'll be heading to Tidwell, if it looks like its really going to happen.

On a side note - Wed. isn't looking very promising now.

Easterly? I saw something that was NW. Galts should be good for either.

I'll be at Vann's. The kids like playing on that beach more.

I'm planning to be at Galt's this afternoon (2:00). The forecasts look stronger later, which is unusual for an East wind. Hope they're right.

I have the gear loaded, but I won't be able to escape from work until after 3:00. It's looking like ENE so I'll probably try for Vann's if I can get away.

Quick update - Jerry F is at Van Pugh, on a 7.5 and said it's a bit much at times, no wind shadow as wind is from the NE. Also heard from Randy over at Tidwell earlier this morning, he said it was really blowing. I'm not going to make it today but everybody have fun.

A windy day for sure. Biggrin My 1hour 10 minute trek on the GA 400 parking lot (normally 30) was rewarded, with strong winds at Tidwell. From 9-10, I sailed 6.4 (probably could have sailed 5.7), after that I went down to 5.7. By noon, it was too much for my 5.7 much of the time, so I quit. Sailed 110 liter Fanatic Hawk. Gville reported 15-23, which sounds about right.

These easterlies can really be great. Much nicer than the westerlies we've been getting.

Wow ! A great day on the lake for someone learning the basics. I will be sore tomorrow.

As is typical for me I got stuck at work and didn’t get to Van Pugh until around 5:00 and everyone else was packing up. That’s never stopped me before so I rigged the 7.9, put on the helmet and headed out. The wind was blowing pretty steady out of the NE with some gusts, but there was no risk of being overpowered. I came back in to get some water and spent a little time talking with Mike and Jerry (sp?). I think they were hanging around for fear I would get swept away or drown. Biggrin

Shortly after they departed the wind began to pick back up. I suppose it was another swirl of the tropical storm. The wind in the Van Pugh inlet was still out of the NE, but on the main lake it was directly out of the North and it was capping big time (at least for me  ). I did a long run all the way to the west shore of the lake and never got off-plane. Fortunately, Barrett had recommended lots of downhaul or it would have been too much for even my 230 pounds to hang on. I think I need to learn about footstraps. After lots of runs and lots of awkward and often unsuccessful tacks in the big swells, I finally came in at sunset around 8:20.

The wind was still blowing 16 mph measured standing on the jetty at Van Pugh !!

Galt's Report:

Sailed from 2:00 to 5:00. Nicely powered on 11.0 and Techno Formula. Kinda backed off towards the end, then picked up again while derigging (isn't that always the case?).

I think Linda was there when I first went out, but left shortly thereafter. No other windsurfers showed while I was there, however there was a fleet of dingy's from the sailing club. Looked like kiddies in training.

Hope to make it to VP today around 2:00 for the predicted NW @ 10, followed by tonight's meeting. -Bill H.

Vann's Tavern was unusually fine for me from 2:30 to 4:00, with an hour of a sort of lull, then back out for another hour and a half. Good port tack ramps. William and Simon were there before me and Al was there after I left.
