I went today between 10:30 a 11:30 and it was about 12-13 knots gusting to 17-18. Water temps were pretty nice. Hoping to be there around 9:30 tomorrow. Only thing there where 2 guys with 20 fishing rods today and an RC boat to take the lines out, so that piece was challenging.
It blew well in to the afternoon today at Vann's with the overcast. Hope to go again tomorrow but probably a little later. Water is, indeed, still warm. (There's a story here.)
Barrett and I got to Vann's about the time Hamdi was packing up an 8. Barrett rigged a 6.7 and 8.0 - not sure which he took down to the water. My common sense said rig an 8 but the long walk down the hill and across the open sand said rig a 5.4 and hope for the best. I got a flight or two early one but really spent the time working on helitacks while Barret got a few rides before heading back in and suggesting that the 8 would have been the right call (which at the time I wouldn't dispute).
About that time, Ed got on the water (afaik 7.5) and we started getting the occasional puffs as the clouds seemed to come back in for a bit indicating something afoot aloft. As the afternoon went on, the puffs came closer together and eventually the 5.4 was a really good call for a solid hour at least. Barrett later asked me if I had an idea it would fill in - I had to honestly reply I just got lucky.
Star of the day is Ed who was ripping on some reaches on his new foil gear. Super impressive. Even saw him try a few jibes. I predict that Ed will be a foil speed hound soon. He isn't scared to power up and send it.
Congrats to Barrett for his 99th windsurf session of 2023!
