Thursday & Sat

Here's what happened Thursday and Saturday -

Thurday 3/20 - It blew some early but really wasnt too much. Randy was on the water at 10:30 and I was sailing at 11:00. It was OK, I was on 7.5 and 130 liter board. Then we were joined by David Wade, Barrett, Jim Crooks and Joe O. The wind was just so so the rest of the afternoon, just enough to keep you hanging around.

Then Saturday, 3/22, we had an unexpected good day. I got there around 3:30, other sailors had started earlier. It was warm, sunny and fairly windy, and was still blowing when I left at 6:00. We had around 9 or 10 sailors and it was great to see everyone. I sailed 7.5 on 130 liter board.

Ditto on Saturday. I sailed my 260 liter board & 9.9  It was right-on for a while playing my favorite longboard game: work upwind when it's lighter then when it picks up or for a big gust, centerboard up/sail back, bear waay off and hold on. I sailed upwind to VP from LLSC this way and eventually ended up at the bay where Holiday is. It must have been around 5:00 when it turned on big and stayed on. 9.9 suddenly seemed 'a little big' (water looked like 5.5-6.0 to me). It seemed like a good time to head back downwind... it was like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. One long reach from "16" (the westernmost island across from VP) to Vann's Tavern in about 5-6 minutes, then 4-5 more long, raging zigs back to LLSC trying to keep that beast on the water (me "jumping" an Equipe is not a pretty sight).

Jumping an Equipe is a blast, but not with a 9.9. Try jumping a D2......

It might be a blast... I recall a video of Robbie looping off a big wave on an Equipe (might have been the middle version-same shape as the IMCO & less volume than the XR).

It's just me that makes it look ugly I'm sure.

I remember watching the video and thinking, "it must be nice to not worry about breaking the board in half..." Every time I got mine more than a foot off the water I worried about the landing, but yea it is FUN
