Supercross?

Can someone explain to me what supercross boards are? What performance can you expect from a board in this catagory and what are they good at?

I think this is for a new PWA discipline when they race but also have some mandatory jumps in the circuit. Seems like that format would work pretty well for guys who (unlike me) know how to jump high and go fast.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

another name for the same game

from everything I have read they are suppose to excel in everything
except upwind performance.

I have a starboard s-type that prichard dude uses for X-cross
but so far I cant see any advantage. It's fast and planes easy but not the best jibing board

Alan,
A supercross board is a hybrid design between a pure slalom shape and a freestyle shape. The slalom aspect means maximized for speed back and forth in flat water (but choppy) across the wind in moderate-to-high wind. Freestyle is, of course, all the manuvering aspects with tricks, so a pure freestyle board has minor elements of width stability, especially before the mast (compared to slalom) and features to increase traction on the water for tricks. Since supercross is about speed on a slalom course (always in high wind) with required fast-moving tricks and transitions, the board designer will also assume a highly-skilled rider. What does all this mean for us cold-front riders on the lake? I think it means a supercross board would have to be a pretty darn good choice for the very experienced windsurfer seeking a moderate-to-high wind, bump 'n jump stick.
But, then again, I could be wrong.

Thanks

The reason that I asked was the Hifly Madd 138 has been updated to a supercross style board for 06. The volume increased 3 liters and the length was reduced slightly. They also put a turnier fin on it. I am not sure about the rocker.

As you know I am a huge Madd fan and after sailing the 165 I am considering the 138. I cannot find any 04 or 05 boards left in the world and the changes to 06 concern me since it is a change. Thanks for the help and I will continue with my search and study.

Alan
