Starboard / Sailworks Demo Event --- March 25th!

Hey, everybody, come to the Starboard/Sailworks Demo Day
on March 25th at Clark Hill Lake (aka, Lake Thurmond) near Augusta. It ain't far for such a rare opportunity!

This event is sponsored by ACWA (Augusta-Columbia Windsurfing Association) and Whitecap Windsurfing.

Roger Jackson, the traveling Starboard/Sailworks Demo Man, will be on hand with virtually every board and sail these manufactureres produce.* You may ride any board and sail that suits your fancy. Starboard is regarded as the most innovative, extensive, progressive line of boards in the sport -- still. And Sailworks, heck, y'all know the RETRO is the state-of-the-art benchmark for flatwater sails, but he'll have the REVO's and HUCKER, too. (We'll need real wind for that one!) Last year on Lake Murray and it was a huge success. Roger, like Jo-Jo, couldn't wait to get back. We decided to relocate this year to Clark Hill just to make it more accessable to the Atlanta/Athens area windsurfers.

The plan is to get set-up by 11:00am and go till dark. Only gloomy, coolish, no-wind weather will cancel this event. (there, I said it. I don't beliive in jinxes anyway. It only makes the mind weak.)

ACWA will serve a quality lunch cookout. We'll need to know you're coming for a food estimate, so RSVP to whitecapws@hotmail.com

Location will be Spring Lakes Recreation Area on Clark Hill Lake. About 2 hours from the I-20/I-285 intersection going east on I-2. Easy drive. Full facilities and kids playground right there. Directions later.

More details to follow but we'll probably include the usual fun things: a few doorprises, organized open longboard racing, etc. (Last year during this event, the fun was provided by 5.0 to 6.0 wind all day long.)

Yes, excellent camping is available in the park within sight.

Let me know if you think you'll be coming...and stay tuned for more exciting details.

(*Not sure about the 15' "Serenity" board, yet. That board in the WS-ing Magazine article is a prototype.)

Awesome to hear that we will be doing this again this year. Last year was a blast -- I was able to ride 3 or 4 brand new Starboard boards (Kombat, Evo, S-Type and Freesex). I don't know anywhere else you can do that for free!

A pic from last year. Ooooh, ahhhh... new board smell!

Kombat

hey my post is gone, let try it again

Chris

I think between me and Jon we have about every starboard offered except the Kombat and Serenity, How did you like the Kombat?

That new serenity should be interesting to try if they bring one.

I was wondering where your post went! Anyway here is my response...

I rode it for about 20 minutes (so not a lot of time to get it dialed it). It felt a little more wave oriented than my JP freestyle wave board. Maybe it has more rocker, but it was a little tougher to get planing and up to speed. Once planing though, it was plenty fast and very loose (slashy and an easy jiber). It would make a great high wind lake board, but it won't be the first to plane (maybe a bigger fin would help, the stock fins are almost always too small). It was much more comfortable for blasting than the Evo. The Evo just did not feel 'right' for lake sailing.

board reviews

Yea you really cant tell alot about a board in a half hour, I was almost ready to sell my s-type and go JP until I got it dialed in and learning it, now I am really starting to love it.

Sounds like a great opportunity to try out new gear and get together with fellow windsurfers. If there is any wind, I plan to be there.

It's time for any of you out there who think you're coming to this event toe-mail or call me. I'm starting the list...

We'll be doing the Tandemonium, too. That's always fun! See...

"That's always fun!" -- hmm, I'll ask ask Danny Johnson what he thinks. So Danny, was it fun last Fall in Hatteras?:D

I agree that everyone should at least try it once...
