Saturday!

Is the NGM MOS windspeed forecast in knots or mph? Either way it must be a typo for ATL @ 2100Z. Athens sez 20+... yee ha.

Galts for me

My son is having his wisdom teeth out Friday morning and if all goes well I will be at Galts Saturday. With the lake this far down we should be able to tuck in behind some exposed land for some high wind flatwater jibe practice. The Starboard jibe should be awsome.

But Alan,

Your board is a HiFly isn't it? (If there's that much wind, I'll be going to Toona)

Here'e Weather Underground's forecast for Sat:

"Mostly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Windy. Highs in the 40s. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 45 mph."

Bozo Island time?

Galts anyone?

There is no way I am going by myself in those conditions. It will take a couple others for me to venture out. All I have in those sail ranges are 4.1 and a 5.0 wave sails from the early 90s. My smallest board is an old Tiga at 115 liters. If anyone else will be there for sure let me know.

I will be at VP tomorrow, probably about noon.

I'm planning on going to Galts. It looks like I'll be bringing my 84 liter ecstasy for sure.

Never is quite perfect for me. It may be too cold, or I'd be out at Galts...

I don't have the gear for 35-50 (Channel 2 reported possible winds tomorrow up to 50) in rough water. But I wouldn't mind trying a few speed runs in flat water. What are the options for flat water but still high winds?

Galts has pretty flat water compared to Van Pugh. If the wind is NW, it will come down the channel and should work pretty well. So you can have high winds and flat water. (Wind is more gusty as Galts, and generally not nearly as strong as Lanier, so the big dogs sail Lanier. )

To be honest, I don't see winds of 35-50 mph. I'm guessing 20-30 at most, maybe a few gusts above that, put winds that big just don't happen very often.

So there might be two sailors so far at Galts... I'm tempted!

If you sail at Van Pugh, try going all the way across to that little string of islands off Aqualand. There is currently a nice protected spot in the lee of several of the islands on a NW wind. It's fun to do (or try to, in my case) a long drawn out jibe there and get right back into the best chop for jumpage.

If the water gets down a couple more feet, there's a much larger reef that appears over there making a pretty big area of super flat water where you can bear way off and really rip...

I fully intend on being there. That would make three and maybe four. The only thing that would keep me from it would be my son's wisdom teeth situation. I will likely get there between 1 and 2.

I'll be at Van Pugh tomorrow - should be a blast (perhaps arctic!).

I should be at Galts if the temp is bearable. However, the skeptic in me says we will not see those kind of winds.

I'll be fighting the gusts at Galts with Randy. Lanier chop is just too much for me on the really big days.
