Hey, its September 1. First official day of the fall windsurfing season and the forecast is calling for easterlies both today and Sunday. There seems to be a difference of opinion as to when the wind will be best, but I'm betting it will be early and heading to Tidwell. I'm already up anyway. The models do seem to suggest Sunday will be the better day. I'm hoping to make both.

Weather.com is forecasting the best wind for mid-day shifting from NE to E, so I'm planning on going to Van Pugh.

CALL TO KITERS...
I will be on Van's Tavern, arriving at noon. Depending on wind direction I may go to Athens park.
If you plan to head out, please call me and let me know.

Chris, Khalil and I are planning on coming up Sunday morning when we seem to have the best probability for wind. We'll likely be up there pretty early as the Easterlies shutdown around noon.

At 10:45 AM there isn't much of a breeze, and by afternoon the Lake will be crowded. With the forecast looking a bit better for Sunday morning, I'll wait till then and head to Van Pugh early if there is wind.

To everyone who is sailing this morning (sat), while I'm not, you're welcome.
I do hope to sail Sunday morning at Van Pugh.

PS - Per Randy about 12:15, he's had a few hours sailing at Tidwell on a 7.4 and is rigging down to his 6.4.

heading to van pugh. how is it looking?
Just curious, but with the wind out of the East-North East, won't you sail Vanns tavern VS Vann Pugh. Trey
It was pretty solid on the 7.4 from about 10:30 till noon. Switched down to the 6.4 and saild it till 2:30. It did drop off a little towards the end, but the 6.4 was still powered much of the time. Even as I was leaving there was still plenty of wind. Best day in quite some time. BTW - boat traffic is down quite a bit. I don' know if its the low lake levels or boat peeps are just getting bored.

Van Pugh vs Vann's Tavern -
I am biased, but I feel it's a toss up for straight east wind (90 degrees) but with any North in it, I think Van Pugh is better and with any south in it, Vann's Tavern is better. But it's not that simple, which direction is it's supposed to turn and it's always more fun sailing with other sailors versus sailing alone.
I hope to sail Van Pugh , or Vann's Tavern Sunday.

I'm sure that both Ga Tech and GA having opening games (along with just about every other college) was a big contributor to the quiet lake. High gas prices seems to have had a small effect, too.
btw, speaking of football - how 'bout Appalachian State over Michigan?
I'm envious, Randy. The soccer indicator was right again.
I sailed a 9.9 / Equipe, racing in a club regatta at LLSC from 1-4 p.m. I was OP'd some but never enough to put me in the water. (I did survive a couple of ~5.5 gusts). The chop in the shipping lanes was pegging the Maytag meter but in the bay it was sweeeet-- not much boat traffic and flat water made for some raging reaches.
Also, I had an extended "chat" w/ 2 of the DNR's finest re: PFDs. After consulting with several tiers of superiors it was determined that "you're right, you don't have to wear one". Got me wondering, what's the deal w/ kites and PFDs?
Juliette was 7.4 ~ 8.4 after 4pm![Smile](https://windsportatlanta.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
good day
Along with doing instruction, I sailed all day at Gault's and it was pretty fine. Early was strongest - a 6.8 would have had you well powered til 1:30 or 2:00 a little lighter and puffier later but still good longboarding conditions. Looking to sail Lanier Sunday, early I guess.
