Hey there babypoolers - some of the models are saying it will top out today in the 10 + range (Weather Underground is calling today 5-15, SW). It does look sort of iffy, but we've had some luck with the pattern lately so, I'll probably give it a try.

If it turns out to be SW, Old 41 is probably the best bet, unless someone has a better idea.

So I went after all, and it was pretty much what I expected - lots of displacement mode sailing, but got planning enough on 9.6 to make it worth the trip. Found that launching on the beach side of Old 41, at the far (east?) end of the beach is a lot easier than launching from the boat launch side (with all the rocks to deal with.)

The interesting thing is I may have found a new sailings spot. There's a launch called Dallas road due South of Old 41. I sailed up by it today. It looks like it has pretty nice beach, and the maps shows a boat launch. At that point the lake is pretty narrow. However, if you can make it a little farther south from there it opens up to an area that's pretty wide, and looks like it would work on anything SE to S to SW. Old 41 is not that good on SE, so this spot may be worth a look sometime. I don't know how much boat traffic there is this time of year, but it might be an alternative to Lake Acworth. (Acutally if you go se from Dallas Rd. you end up at Acworth.)

are there any wide beaches that have consistent winds that are located on this lake or is the lake lined with trees everywhere? I am looking for kiting spots.

Good news and bad news. Most the places I know are lined with trees. There are a few beaches, Acworth, Galts Ferry, Old 41, Dallas Road, etc. Most seem to be pretty busy in the warm weather months. Of course, that academic since there is not much wind any way.

However, in the winter as the water drops the lake becomes much more narrow and the trees become farther aways from the water, so there may be a lot better choices at that time. The water levels seem to stay pretty high until late fall, when it goes down pretty quick, and then returns to full level in the later spring. (This is the best wind time of year).

It would probably pay to get a map of the lake and drive around some and take a look.
