Saint Simons

Hey! We sailed (survivor-style) yesterday! Mostly about 30 but some 36-45 as measured at Grays Reef! Crazy! I sailed my smallest(4.7) then a borrowed 4.2, my buds had 3.75 and 3.5, but we were all outmatched by mother nature.

Today was the sweeeet day! Swell so nice and direction put glass in between...I'm still high! 6.0 and waves! best day ever. Punta San Carlos came to Saint Simons. More tomorrow, with East moving in on the mostly North we've had for days...

What a week . . . thanks to that low spinning off Florida's west coast. Very strange that we'd get so much wind in Hilton Head, but we did!!! Monday I didn't even go - work, cold and rainy and, fo some reason, those 40+ gusts just didn't tug on me. Tuesday was good - but still survival sailing - 4.7 and 78L board / side off. A humbling session. Wednesday was more manageableon the 4.7. Side shore. Huge rollers well spaced with relatively smooth water between. (Glassy would've been nice.) Thursday was about 25 knots - side to side off. The longshore current was trucking like a river. I could NOT punch through the shorebreak because the current just swept you away. Long walk dragging gear and zen-mumbling (different from chanting) back to the launch point. Friday the skies cleared and I dumped work about 2. Wind had really backed off. Went out briefly with a 6.5, but the thrill was gone. Need a 5.5 session today or tomorrow (or both) to end the week in style.
