suggestions: Gulf Shores, Ft. Walton, Pensacola and Panama City all have ocean and protected water launches.

I've never sailed there but Nickajack Lake always looked interesting driving over it on the way to Huntsville. The Tennessee has some great places to sail from Guntersville to the Muscle Shoals area.

The spot you mentioned looks like it could be very good on a NE. Give it a go and let us know what you find.

I've sailed from Booker T. Washington Park and Privateer Yacht Club, straight across the river. As I recall, on a SW day the elevation above the dam and the hills on either side of the river form a venturi and it's windier there than nearby. SW is a very common direction in the summer.

Privateer has an active Jr sailing program. McLaughlin Boat Works is in 'nooga somewhere. They are one of the biggest makers of Optimists, the boat for Jrs between 8-14.

I think people used to sail somewhere on Nickajack also.

Oh yeah, if there's a big honkin' NW wind and 50º+ temp, Van Pugh Park at Lake Lanier will likely have more windsurfers than anyplace within 6 hrs of C'nooga. It may be ~3hrs to Lanier.

Check this site for posts on when we are sailing at Van Pugh Park on Lake Lanier. Tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon looks good from the forecast.

Welcome to Chattanooga. There are a handful of windsurfers here. We usually sail from the boat ramp in the TVA park just above Chickamauga Dam if winds are north or west, Harrison Bay State Park if it's south. East winds are rare. Contact me at rickc at infosystems.com & I'll hook you up with the local crew.

Hey, I sent you an e-mail Rick I'm just not sure if it was the right address or not.

right ?
Also, anybody in the Chattanooga area, hit me up. I'm new to the sport, and needing to know what kind of gear I need to get out on the lake and learn as soon as possible! Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
(It beats having to drive to the gulf or Carolinas for lessons)
