Belgium - 6 pm start in late June (daylight until late). Rabbit start off the beach, race out to a buoy, in, back out, in and then drink a beer (don't spill anything!). Repeat twice.
Chris V. is the man to talk to. There are a number of good regattas in the region. Chris seems to go to some each year, I believe. Probably a 6 hour drive though. Also, LLSC used to have some races where there was a windsurfing fleet included.

BTW - this race format, with racing followed by drinking and more racing and drinking might just be what NASCAR needs to turn things around. It would sort of an audience participation event as well - fans drink at the same time as their hero. After three or four rounds, the races could be a lot more interesting. They could call it the NASCAR Drinking and Driving Championship Presented by Budweiser.

The NIMBY is on our radar this year. Pensacola is a bit of a hike for a weekend so Debi & I might stretch it to 3 days. Gonna watch the forecast before committing to the $20 registration though.
You know these guys from the Fall Classic... super fun and generous – they traditionally bring Friday's supper to Lanier from Tally!
The Shell Point regattas feature relaxed racing with harmless but plentiful decadence and debauchery. Regatta success is measured in kegs consumed with special recognition for Party Animal etc. There's the infamous Apology Board for them what transgress too much. I always the enjoy the Kafkaesque juxtaposition on the Shell Point beach of the toady, inky locals who crept out of the deep woods of the panhandle and the gentrified PhDs, professionals, awesome musicians and the like, that are the SPSC. Poke around on that events pages for the other trips & events. Endless Simmer in the fall & Keys trip in February are a blast.
Looks like fun.
