OBX Report from Nags Head - Wave Sailing

This morning we went for a bike ride along the beach path past the Cavalier Surf Shop. After lunch the sky darkened and within minutes the wind reversed and picked up from the North. I grabbed my 7.0m sail and sailed the Sound with Randy, Mel & Jim. For 45 minutes we had wind in the low 20's before it shifted NE and began to drop. It was a short session & lots of fun if you were rigged and ready.

Alain has been waiting for side-shore wind on the ocean and easy shore break. Today the conditions were just what he'd been waiting for. After sailing the Sound, I checked on Alain and found him in the surf zone with a 6 meter sail and new 10 ft wave board. The beach patrol had a crew there keeping an eye on him in case he got in trouble. Sure enough Alain broke a mast, but re-rigged and went back out with his GoPro camera mounted on his boom to get the following photo.
