Update...Newbie still looking for entry level gear...That has had a day of instruction...I have much admiration for anyone that can windsurf with a any level of expertise....I am humbled, but still wanting to pursue this! Any one that has a board they would let me demo while at Galts let me know...

Mark,
Gene's Consignment Shop has beginner gear for rent but it's at Lanier, not Gaults. Lanier is alittle tougher to sail for beginners (and sometimes not beginners), but if you wanted to rent it for a long weekend and sail at Gaults or something like that, give me a call, 770-967-0104, or email
.

Mark,
Lanier is tough on beginners but easier if you pick the right beach. If the wind is W, NW, don't go to Van Pugh like the big dogs. The next stop downwind is Bozo Island and then the campground (my memory is drawing a blank - Chestnut Ridge). Instead, go to Sunrise Cove where you'll have a greater likelihood of getting blown back home, the water is smoother and the wind shadow at the launch much less.
We all like VP cause it sticks us out into the wind but it can have it's challenges even for good sailors - voodoo chop and that nasty shadow at the launch that's made a bunch of sailors look like kooks until they get further out.
Get a wide board and a really small sail and enjoy yourself. None of us are superheroes. Every advanced sailor was a newbie, too, except, for must of us, back when the beginner stuff really was crap.
uh.....gene..
don't you mean

Thanks, my mistake, I have corrected it above.

Yes - you should definitely check out the Start at Gene's consigment. It's so easy to sail, even a caveman could do it.

I will probably be eating these words but I was hoping to get a board that would allow me some room to grow?
Mark
Well, Gene's board is for rent, so you can buy something after you've tried it - eliminates the outgrow problem. Also, many of the club's more expereinced sailors bought Starts since it planes so well in lighter winds. Guys like me, Webguy, Danny Johnson, Gene and others. (In some cases, these boards did double duty, as a teaching platform for kids, spouse, etc, but the truth is the experienced guys were sailing them for fun as well.) If you are still interested in the Prodigy, let me know, but it will probably be at least a few weeks before I can work it out to bring it to Galts as I'm heading out of town this weekend.
