New Sailing Spot

Al and I went to Keith's Bridge park, north of Browns Bridge on Sat afternoon. (His find.) Wind was very strong and consistent - plenty of whitecaps. I sailed 6.6 Al 7.5 (only sail he brought) we both thought we could have sailed smaller sails. Much stronger than the day before when I sailed at Van Pugh. By way of comparison, Gene was at Van Pugh around the same time and reported little no wind. G-ville was reporting 15-24 or so, at the time, which seemed plausibe for us, but certainly not for VP. So its a spot worth looking at on WSW type days. For whatever reason the wind was making it all the way down to the water their, but not at VP.

Sailed longboard at the same spot Sunday. While I had some good runs, lightening didn't strike twice. Still its a nice park, a bit farther than Old Fed or Sunrise, for those on the east side of the lake, but actually closer than any of those spots for any of us on the west side.

Its not a hard spot to find on Mapquest or the like. The launch is not ideal - you either carry your gear a good ways or launch in a hole that makes the Van Pugh hole look easy, but its not that bad either way. Might be a very good spot for kiting as well.

Re: New Sailing Spot

Is that down Old Keith Bridge Rd., then Long Hollow Rd.? I'm not seeing where you'd put in there. Looks like a just OK fetch from SW of maybe 1/2 mile. Could be I'm looking at the wrong place.

Chris,

The fetch is about 2 miles for SW winds, much less for anything else. Basically its almost due north of Brown's Bridge. You can see Browns Br road from where I was sailing. The sailing area is at least 1/2 mile wide.

The park is at the very end of Old Keith Br road. The luanch requires you either to carry your gear to a good spot like Al did, or take the extra time to get out of the cove near the parking lot. I'll try to email you a map.
