My own private boat ramp, whitecaps and race course!!

I ain't makin this up. I didn't expect to go to the lake today, but about 9am g-ville was reporting 8kt, ne. So I loaded the Serenity and my kayak, and headed to Tidwell. (Thought about bringing my hypersonic, but I already felt foolish enough just going, considering the forecast was saying light and variable.) Upon arrival I had 2 pleasant surprises - lots of whitecaps and two of the (3) boat ramps at Tidwel are now closed - apparently open only for windsurfing. I'm thinking of having them put sign up. (Just as soon as I get them to paint my name on my private parking space.) How nice of the COE to do this for me, the "Official Windsurfer of Tidwell Boat Ramp."

Anyway, I was wishing I had the hypersonic, as the Serenity was kind of scary in all the whitecaps. But I sailed it anyway. I discovered that there now are two islands upwind of the launch spot (complete with floating marker.) Made a very nice practice upwind mark for tuning up for next weeks race. (Gee maybe I should have kept that to myself. Now I'll have no excuses)

Anyway, the whitecaps lasted from 10 to 11 and after that it was fun but not as scary anymore. Would have called some of you all, but really thoujght I would be kayaking today.

Randy, you are one one dedicated windsurfing dude (oh wait, that should be deity). 8kts and your heading up to the lake!

Good luck with that sign. Last year Chuck and I put up an itty-bitty "Windsurfing X-ing" sign on the same pole that had a no-parking sign right by the boat ramp where the windsurfers launch. Within 3 days the crotchety old COE boneheads had taken it down. Geez guys, lighten up!

Hey Nitro,

IIRC you have a Kona. Try it out in 8kt sometime. I'll bet its more fun that you might expect. BTW - one of the things about longboarding is it does get you out when wind isn't that good, and more often than you'd expect more wind than you would think shows up!
