Jekyll Report late Aug 2010

Arrived Sat - not enought time to sail

Sun - 20 -25 E 6.5 rought seas and big chop - went to the intercoastal and sailed baby butt flat water

Mon - 15 - 20 E 6.5 seas still rought so intercoastal was the best bet.

Tue - 10 - 15 did not sail

Wed - checked out spots on the coast back up to Savannah. Sapelo Is. looked the most interesting but did not have time to check it out. You drive to the end of the road then take a person ferry to the island.

Jekyll is under construction. There is only one spot left like the one we sailed at last time with shower, bath, parking. The others are under some type of construction.

The path to get a Hobie in and out on the beach is still there and usable.

Place was deserted. Went to breakfast and we would be the only ones in the resturant. Motels have BOGO deals. Days Inn oceanfront $84. New place Hampton inn $109

Went to St. Simons and it was like being on I-285. What a difference a few miles makes. If you like crowds and crowds then go to SS if you like nature go to Jekyll.

Good trip - one day thundershower - rest of days were high 80"s and sunny. Not too hot to sit on the beach. Water was very rough. Thank goodness for St Andrews Picnic area on the intercoastal.

It was really nice having the beach all to yourself. You look up and down the beach and the nearest person was 1/2 to 1 mile away.

Re: Jekyll Report late Aug 2010

Hello,
We're going to Jekyll this upcoming weekend (first time ever) and I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts to share or suggestions on specific windsurfing locations on the island (it looks like winds will be NE 14-18)?

Also, we were planning on staying at the campground - any thoughts why we shouldn't maybe?

Thanks,
Enis

Enis,

I camped there before, it was fine, But, the Campground is not on the water and you'll have to drive to go windsurfing. There was a nice Sandbar at low tide when we were there, but It's been a couple of years, and they move around sometimes.

Call me if you like.
