Thursday was great and friday was 8.0. and good. Sat is 10 - 15 so I will check out the kite boarders first. Sunny Sunny and warm. I love Jekyll.
Jekyll is the only beach community that has not had any development of real estate for the past 25 years.

David - where did you windsurf? I'll be there next weekend and was just interested in some insider tips. I did windsurf there many years ago - '99 I think. We were staying in the managed condos where there is a sea wall there of rip-rap.

You are probably staying where I am staying. There is no beach at high tide and nothing but a bunch of rocks. The are doing the kiteboarding thing just up the beach a little where there is plenty of beach and room. The Ga Tech guys showed up yesterday and I took them to the SW side of the island to sail. The wind was 20-25 out of the NE and the ocean was rough. The inland side was flat and plenty of wind. You will be able to find this place easy just go to the south end of the island. We sailed about 2.5 hours and then the tide began going out so Gail and I went back to were the kiteboarders were. Wind call today is E 5-10. These kiters tell me that you have to have at least 12 mph to sail. I need 15 to plane on my windsurfer. I though kites could sail in 8 to 10 mph guess I was wrong

David - thank you for the information. I will definately have my windsurfboard this weekend. Was it too shallow with the outgoing tide, or did it make the relative speed messed up? On the low wind kiteboard vs w/s, in my lessons kiteboarding I have been in some very low wind conditions - I did not have an anonometer, but it was well below w/s wind - on the other hand it was probably too lite for good kiteboarders too. My thing is to have multiple ways to enjoy the water & outdoors. I even still have some skateboards. All you need is a hill - no wind requirements! Smile Richard

Just be aware of the tide. It is very strong and 7 feet. There is always plenty of water, it never gets to shallow.

as long as you're in that neighborhood, you might want to check out East Beach (at the old Coast Guard Sation) on St simons Island. Easy drive up access and parking with facilities at one of the best ocean-side non-extreme windsurfing/kiteboarding venues I've ever seen. (Nitrojiber will telll you that, too, right?) Sandbar a few hundred yards offshore that break the swell at mid-to-low tide. This is where the St. Simons Surf Sailors compond is, so if it's sailable, there is always some local windsurfers out there. THey would usually even let you rig on the grass inside the fence. Beautiful curving beach there that sort of encircles the area, creates a lot of shallow acerage, but if you want to go "outside" you can go over the bar or through the gap -- and then it can get extreme if that's your thing. Go to Beachcombers for bar-b-que and beer and genuine surf-shack atmosphere afterward-- SWEET!

I agree Chuck. The sandbar and the awesome rigging area makes St. Simons my favorite place to sail the ocean. I love that place!

Ditto that on East Beach- nice variety of conditions. The wide, hard-packed beach made a perfect place for the landsailor too.

and to tie this whole Jekyll/ St. Simons thing together, a couple of times this summer the St. Simons Surf Sailers will have a windsurf "race" (really, more of just a social, fun ride together) from East Beach on SSI over to Jekyll. The event was originaly designed for the catamaraners, but the windsurfers have sort of made it their event. This is what I'm told anyway -- I've never actually witnessed it. But, my point is, these two locations are within sight of each other. I can keep the ABCers informed -- they would LOVE to have some visitors.
