Iceperson regatta

It looks like the "January Thaw" is almost done. Anybody wanna try a little informal race this weekend? I think Sunday may be offering the best wind.

Sure, sounds good. You thinking about a course race like the Fall Classic?

Anything you want. Without a boat to set marks, what we've done before was do a beach start and go around an island then a "No wake" buoy etc... just whatever we decide.

Once, we when it was windy, we anchored two milkjugs or life jackets to jibe around and did figure 8 slalom races off the beach... pretty good fun and you can crank off a ton of quick races w/ people jumping in or out any time.

For course racing, another way to start on the water is called a "Rabbit Start": Somebody sails on port tack and everybody else starts on starboard, crossing behind the "rabbit" wherever you choose.

I don't think I'll make it based on this morning's (Sunday) forcast. For today, NWS Gainesville forcast is calling for "A 20 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. North wind between 5 and 10 mph."

Monday and perhaps Tuesday look good though.
