It looks like Atlanta may have been windier today than the Outer Banks!
This morning was calm, then mid-day it suddenly picked up to 4.5 meter wind - about 30 mph side shore from the SSE. Today was overcast, but warm enough for a shorty until 5PM. By then it ramped up until we were blown off the water. Unfortunately, Jim left his 4.3 meter sail at home, thinking he wouldn't need it. You know the Outer Banks - bring all the gear.
Please post a report on the day at the Lake.

How was it today? Freakin' amazing!!! In Augusta, temps were in the mid 80s with gusts over 40. The 3.7 was working well, although winds were insanely gusty.
I am trying to think back -- when have I ever had a 3.7 day, at the lake, needing only a shorty? I have been sailing a long time, and I honestly can't remember another day like that.
I also curious to get a Lanier report! So how was it?
Thanks for the reports on L. Juliette & Augusta. Gene & Albert - how was Lake Lanier?

We had a BIG crowd at Van Pugh today. When I got there most people on the water were on 5.0 to 5.5s and the report was to rig something smaller.
I rigged the 4.7 on the 75L board and once I made it past the wind line I was overpowered. Waited for it to come down and since it didn't seem like it was going to I went to the 3.7. The 3.7 was perfect in the gusts but a bit small otherwise and really labored to get back. I think it was solid 4.0-4.2.
I can't beleive I sailed a 3.7 on a 75L board at Lanier wearing a shortie.
Definitely a learning experience for me since I have only had 3.7 days in Hatteras - 3.7 @ Lanier is a little different ....
As Gene and I were leaving it seemed to pick up again. Wicked !!

You're not kidding. High wind lake sailing is pretty wicked -- big gusts, big lulls, occasionally big waves (at least compared to Pamlico Sound). Even though I am not a big guy, I never pull out my 70L board anymore at the lake. I have gotten used to my 90L board in really high winds -- I just don't seem to wear myself out as much with it.
I was the lone sailor at Galts. I sailed at around 1PM for about 45 minutes. It was totally insane. Was sailing a 4.7 on a Madd 128 flying overpowered through the gusts and the board was great in the lulls. It was fine for a while, but then this wild, unpredictable gust 20-30 mph would not quit, so I did for safety reasons. As I derig, his guy Doug Bell shows up with a huge longboard and 80's gear. Unfreakingbelievable. I had to leave and suspect he didn't even try to go out although he started rigging and was going to wait till it subsided, yeah right. He said he was a local old timer and knew some people I never met except for one name I recognized from our club (french name starts with a B but I won't dare try to spell it, sorry I forgot your first name...). Gene, I got his number and will give him yours so he can get some updated used gear...
Galts was relatively flat and very fast, water shorty warm, probably not even necessary, lake level over full.

I remember going out on some early 80's gear when I first started (was all I could afford at the time) in a gale force 30kt wind with a 6m and no harness or footstraps, but plenty of attitude.
Learnt that lesson real fast...
