Hero Cam guys - Beware

I've been using the Hero cam for a while now. One thing that always worried me was the sticky mounting tabs they provide. In the past, I always used them with some hot glue to hold them in place, and that worked great - never lost one.

Recently, I got lazy and just stuck one onto one of my boards (HiFly plastic) without the glue. I used the cam a few times and it work fine. The other day when pulling my board out of the water (w.o. the camera on it) the plastic mounting tab fell off. Had this happened with the board in the water and camera attached, it would probably be at the bottom of the lake now. Now the whole problem may have been due to attaching the mount on a plastic board, but why take chances? I've used hot glue with the regular mounts for quite a while and they stick really well. (I put the mount on w.o. glue, then seal the edges with the hot glue.) I took one of those mounts off a board and it was quite a bit of work to get it off. Once the tab is off, the hot glue will come right off if you use rubbing acohol on it. I also used the hot glue with the mount on a board with an EVA deck and that's held up just fine also.

So be carefull how you mount the hero cam.

Re: Hero Cam guys - Beware

Thanks Rad. Those things seemed a little iffy to me. The new Hero 2 comes with a interchangeable back that has an integral floaty life jacket– really! The new sticky mounts are also a little bigger. So, I'm guessing they had a few "complaints" on the stickiness.
