Hatteras 2nd Week Reports

GREAT FIRST WEEK!!!!

Saturday the wind slacked off and it warmed up. THere were a few caps and I could have ran the big stuff but instead ........

Played with the KITES. I flew my 12 meter for awhile and then PIP blew up his 16 meter. We all played with it and I even tried the board. We all had a FUN time.

LOVE this place.

Sunday, not much happening.

Today, Monday, flew the 12 meter kite in the morning, tried the board, it's tuff. Then a very nice 6.0 afternoon, SW wind, warm and windy.

Gene, had 2.5 days of great sailing in Frisco Woods. On Friday, we went up to Avon and sailed out to the reef. 15 minutes sailing on a starboard tack on a 4.7 sail. The waves were not that big considering the strong wind, but did manage to try about 5 or 6 big back loops coming very close on 2 and bailing from about 15 feet on one of them. I too love this place and will return in the fall. Felt good to be in the waves again. Hope you had a good trip as well. Keep us posted, Trey

2nd week

Wind every day, Gene was on 6.0 I was on 6.4 116l, still blowing. This trip has been so fun, tons of wind, warm, I even stood up on a kiteboard for about 1 nanosecond. Looks good till we leave, I'm tired sore and stoked. I was on my 5.8 yesterday.

I Love this place.

Week 2 sailed 5.2m on Monday, 6.7m on Tues, and 5.2m with an 84 liter board today. The water has warmed up requiring only a shorty wetsuit. Conditions have been incredibly good in Nags Head.

From Nags Head - Friday (4-27-07) we rigged small. I started out on a 4.5 meter sail and within a half hour rigged down to a 3.7m. By late afternoon we were blown off the water. Despite the high wind, it was mostly sunny and a shorty was comfortable.

Dang, no doubt the second week was the one to be there. I froze my rear off last week! Can't believe you were shorties with all that
wind.

Thursday the forecast was for the wind to build during the day and be cranking by afternoon, and then for it to really blow Friday. I flew my Kite Thurs morning to make sure I got some practice in. It was very lite winds and then it totally shut down all day. As the sun was about to set, it really cranked up just as we were finishing dinner (didnt sail.)

Friday, our last sailing day, it blew all day. We didnt have quite as much wind as Barrett in Nags Head, but I sailed my 5.2 all day. It did get harder as the day went on. Because the 5.2 has so much range (2007 Ezzy SE Wave) and with the Wild Board (heavy plastic), I was able to keep sailing it. Danny rigged down to his 4.7 late.

What a trip!!!!! This was the most hard wind I've ever sailed in a 2 week period. I REALLY, REALLY DO LOVE THIS PLACE!

Barrett was nice enough to post some pictures of the atlanta sailors in Rodanthee (not Nags Head) on the Foto galley. Be warned, they're are not Barrett quality photos and I'm alittle confused about the "young" part of the title : Young & Old Celebrate on the Outer Banks

Thanks Barrett.
