Gene's Hatteras (Rodanthee) report

Sunday, on the water around 3:00 after making the drive in 10.5 hours. Sailed 5.2 Ezzy Wave on the WILD board!!! Very nice.
Monday, started on 5.2 for an early session on 104 ltr JP, then up to the 7.0 on my HiFly Free 142 around 11:00 am. Then we flew trainer kites on the beach in the afternoon.

Commercial - The 5.2 Ezzy sail, the new redesigned 2007 Special Edition Wave sail with alot of power and alot of range, and the 2007 HifFly Free 142 are available for demo at WindSense (anytime I'm not riding them, just ask). The Free comes with 2 different size fins (not a twin fin) and I hope to run it with sails from my 5.2 to my 9.0, which will make it a great board for Lanier conditions.

The wind is supposed to slack off for the next few days but hopefully be back up toward the end of the week. I Love this place.

It didnt slack off, we had another good day. Started on the 7.0, but not for long, then went to the 5.2 again on the 104 liter board. Then broke for a late lunch and hot tub, then back out on the 7.0 for awhile, and it was alittle big, but I was too tire to rig the 6.0.

Tim Carter is up here camping at Lisa's Pizza, he sailed with us yesterday and this morning he and a bud were playing with a kite. We all supervised.

So far no pictures. I really love this place.

Tues nite - Andy Brandt of ABK clinics did a Q&A Mini Clinic at one of the shops (with free beer), where I learned I have been doing everything wrong.
Wednesday thru Sat, not alot of wind, did get two 7.0 mornings in. One night it cranked up around 4:00am, got on the water around 8, but it was already shutting down. There were some days where I could have ran the big stuff but didnt. I did hit the shops and played with the trainer kite and Walley's big Kite alittle bit.

Speaking of KITES, I took the Real Kiteboarding beginner Kite classes Fri and Sat. More about that in a later post, as I have to get ready to change houses this morning, But let me just say, it was fun but NOT EASY!

Way to go Gene....... watch out!!! the dark side of the force (kiting) is powerfull, if you get sucked in...it is very difficult to come back!. Hope you had a lot of fun.
Rgds.

We have made 5 sessions at the reef, which is one of the best places to sail in waves I have ever seen. In reality, its a big chunk of sand that meets up with deep water swell about 2.75 miles from our launch in Avon. Big ramps rolling head on at you in the shallow and decent size swell in the deep. We took a waterproof camera out there and sqeezed off some shots, hope they turn out ok. So far this trip I have sailed my entire quiver except for my 4.2 superfreak. Includes 4.7, 5.7, 5.8, 6.4, 7.5, 8.0, 8.6, 90L Carve, 116L SuperX, 116L Freesex, 149L FreeDiamond, 200L Kona. To dang tired and sore to rig my 10.3. Early in the week Chuck, Monty and myself surfed and found a great spot down in Frisco for us beginners. And like Geno, flew my trainer kite. We have had an awesome trip so far...

Second week report (sorry for the delay) -
We had decent wind but none of the real hard all day long stuff. I had one 6.0 session and a few 7.0 and 9.0 days. We had a great group of people in a great house.

Kiting class report -
It was fun. I had practiced on a trainer kite and had watched the Real Kiteboarding video. THe land session went well, exactly like the video and I had it nailed. Then, the on the water lesson, that's when it got tuff. We (2 students and instructor) took a 5 line 13 meter C-Kited to the shallow water, and the assisted lauch and landing went well and the body dragging upwind went well. Then, while body dragging down wind, we started crashing the kite and had a hard time re-launching. I think the wind started getting lighter or gustier. The instructor even had a hard time re-launching the kite. Then to finish it off, we tried to actully get on the board but didnt have time but for a few tries. I didnt get the hang of it. By then our 2 hour class had become a 3 hour class, we were getting tired and alittle cold. BUT, it was fun, and not very scarey.
