It literally took me longer than it takes to drive to Hatteras (and maybe back as far as Columbia) but I sorted out why latest posts didn't appear on the home page when visitors weren't logged in.
That's been bugging me since last summer but I've just had the boat load of time I could commit to sorting it out.
