In case you hadn't heard yet, Gene is in the hospital at Emory in the Intensive Care Unit. I've heard he cannot have calls or visitors but am not sure about that. I understand his condition is cause for concern, but really don't know much more about it.
Gene sailed along with several of us last Friday, but he fell ill over the weekend. I don't know many details but he is now in the hospital. I know Gene has many friends who read these forums so please keep him in your thoughts.
If anyone has any information regarding visiting or information concerning his condition (with his approval to post) please post it. I will update this as I get more informaiton myself.

he is in room G305, the nurse told me he was stable but thats all the info she could give me.
Just talked with Lisa. Gene has taken a turn for the worse, and the next 48 hours are very critical for him. He is sufering from a brain hemorage. It has not been possible to determine the source of the problem though he has undergone many tests. He does not feel up to seeing visitors at this time. Lisa will let us know when he feel up to seeing people.

I talked to Lisa also. She said Gene was stronger yesterday (but a little loopy from drugs) and even made sure she got the giveaways to take to the party--how "Gene" is that? As I understand it, this hemorrage is not a stroke but blood that has leaked in his brain. The danger is that it will create pressure on other blood vessels and that could cause a stroke. The hope is the blood will dissipate and no immediate procedure (angio or surgery) would be needed. Scary. Lisa asked if anybody had Big Al's email address.
wow, I just spoke to him night before last, does anyone have the number to emory? Please email it to
I sent out an Email informing the New England crew earlier this morning when I first read Randy's entry. I copied Lisa and have tried calling her home, but did not leave a message. My Email is

We are all very concerned about our good friend Gene, and are praying that he has a full recovery.
I just spoke with Lisa and Gene is still in a bad way. The doctors said the next 48 hours are critical as they monitor the effects caused by the build up of blood on his brain. If things get worse they will have to operate to repair the busted blood vessel in his head. Otherwise if he remains relatively stable the next 48 hours he should begin to recover successfully, without any damage. Looks like he will be in ICU for a couple of weeks, and Lisa said he's not feeling to well and in and out a lot.
No sign of what caused this, but Lisa did say Gene had a family member suffer a hemorage of the brain. Everyone be sure and include Geno in thier prayers, we all want are good buddy back good as new!

(Barrett - thanks for the daily updates on Gene's condition.)
The girls drew him some get well pictures tonight - I'll send them to Lisa. The one that I did not assist with was much better! We are thinking of, and praying for, Gene.
