Gene’s Hatteras Report – Week 1

Saturday. 4/11 – WALK OF SHAME! West wind 10-15, rigged 7.5, pump to plane, then plane some of the time, then planning, and then….. Boom, wind shifted to the North 25-35+, 7.5 was way, way too big. I was caught downwind and outside, after getting smacked around awhile, I finally made it to shore and had to walk it back which also wasn’t easy. Too tired to re-rig, but probably would have rigged my 4.5 or 5.2, it was cranking. Fun Factor, ZERO. No damage done except to ego.

See the spike at 5:00 pm.

Sun – 6.0, 115 and 86 liter boards, nice day. Wind was N, NE, then shut down late afternoon. Fun factor 8 of 10.

Forecast is for no wind today (Monday,) then wind for the next few days.

I still love this place in spite of Saturday.

Wind Report

Monday morning wind 65-100 mph blew the shingles off the roof, trees down everywhere , thought about rigging then realized the roof was blowing off and decided to stay inside.

I had to wait more than an hour for Francisco so when he finally got back from a 2 hour beach walk I decided to bring the board back and not go. So now, I'm head to the beach with a trainer foil to practice.

Monday - No wind, checked out the shops.

Tuesday - Kited, did OK, still alot to learn. I went way downwind, on purpose, to get to the super shallow water and get away from the crowds (windsurfers and other kiters.) When the wind shut down, I had a long walk back, BUT, Jim B from our house drove down and picked me up. Super Nice guy. Also, some other kiteboarders helped me out when one side of my footstrap came loose, also while way down wind. And had a nice visit from MiMi and Francisco. This kiteboarding stuff really is lots of fun. (7 of 10)

Wednesday - Not much wind to start the day off, but after lunch and a nap, it cranked up and had a nice long 6.0 session in the afternoon. (7 of 10)

Forecast for tomorrow looks good. Love this place!

Thursday - 3.7 ON THE WILD BOARD! How could it get any better? Add Big Al on a 3.7 (yes, Big Al Stewart, formerly from Atlanta) and Rich D on a 3.6. And it's still cranking.

I Really, Really Love this place.

Thursday (later) - We had another 3.7 session for about an hour. What a fun and tiring day. I'd give it a 9 of 10 on the fun meter.

Friday - There was some wind in the morning but I missed it as I was recovering from Thurs. I did kite some in the afternoon but the wind was alittle lite. I could get up on the board but couldnt keep it going, still fun, 6 of 10.

Very Good Week! I had 2 good 6.0 days, one big day on the 3.7 and did try to kite some ( 2 days.)

I LOVE THIS PLACE!
