Galts Tues

I had a swell time from 2-5 on my ancient Equipe and brand new Aerotech VMG 7.5 (a killer deal from Windsense, thank you Gene). It was a day of puff hunting... upwind in the lulls and raging downwind in the gusts. A 6.5 would have worked in the gusts. Lots of fun all by myself except for a Laser dude out of AYC and a Sunfish that came out later.

I sailed way up past the marina because it looked like it was more open to the NE wind. It was, and it's a nice fetch that comes from Victoria Landing(?), but only a little better wind. Longer downwind rides were possible all the way from the marina down to AYC.

Chiris,

Thanks for the report. I've never sailed that far upwind at Galts, sounds like its worth trying to get there. In the winter when the water is low, we used to try to get upwind because there is a landbar that appears there. It is very low, so provides no wind shadow, but makes the water very flat, and fun for high speed sailing.

Yes, I can tell you that a 44cm fin will hit bottom on that reef now. I did the speed thing last year when it was out of the water... very smooth. When Lanier gets just to the right level, there is a similar but longer reef. It's all the way across from VP near island #16 (off Aqualand). Ideal for really fast reaching, into long arcing jibes in smooooth water with full-on wind... (it might be a while before it's that low again).

I saw you show up just as I was leaving. I walked out on the jetty to look at your sail. It caught my attention immediatly. It is obviously working for you.

I sailed a 6.6 and shortboard from 11am until about 1pm. Spent the rest of the time instructing my wife. As usual the east wind seemed to blow early and at 11am it was filled in all the way across and was perfect for a 6.6. Good day.
