I'm at St Simons Island on th GA coast (halfway between Savannah and Jacksonville) until at least mid-day Monday and may stay through Tuesday. Be glad to give youa report from the scene. That forecast is weirding me out -- 7 to 10 foot seas and 4 days with 20+ knots in the forecast?!?! The NOAA synopsis doesn't really add up... but what do I know?
BTW, the public beach at St Simons, known as East Beach, is an excellent all-round, all-skill-level, convenient windsurfing venue. Inside sand bar protected flatwater or open ocean. Lot's of shallow acerage. Lots of other windsurfers here, too. Chris Campbell and Danny Johnson were down here about 2 week ago and will give you a review on that, if they read this, ...won't you?

Uhmmm, this is sounding good to me, I may head down Sunday if I can sort some things out. 20+ knots sound fairly high for my skill level but I think I can handle if I don't have to fight too much rough seas. How rough is it? Thanks for the update, it sure has perked me ...

Thanks,
Nolan

It should be very rough by GA standards -- 6-9 foot seas could mean a gnarly shore break for Savannah. If you can sail around low tide, it could still be doable, but you still need to be a good waterstarter in those kinds of conditions.

Weather Channel is saying 10 to 20 mph today for the Bruswick forecast. The NOAA coastal zone forecast now says 10 to 15 K. today building to 20 by night. Monday , Tues, Wed. now has 20 knots as teh forecast but no more about 25 as it did have. Low tide is in the middle of the afternoon so inside the sand bar at East Beach on St Simons will be rather flat on a NE.

NE winds on SSI are a great time to sail. Sail during the falling tide when the wind is blowing against the tide. You will have a 3-4 knot push upwind. It's a good time for short boards. The wind will be very consistent. If you sail when the tide and wind are together you will get blown very far down the beach.

Down near the King&Prince the sandbar is closer if you want to go out and get some air.

When sailing on a falling tide on SSI stick near the locals or stay with a buddy. Don't be the last one on the water. You can't outswim the tide. A broken part will have you two miles off the beach in thirty minutes. And it is very hard to see a downed sail from the beach when it is rough. Somebody has to see you down to call the Coast Guard. Several times the shrimp boats have hauled in windsurfers after they have been sitting on their boards for several hours.

It is a great place to sail. Have fun. If you run into any of the locals tell them I said "hi."
