Friday March 5

Hey,

The forecasts are showing S-SW 15-20 for tomorrow. Should be warm (70's) but maybe wet with rain and a chance of thunderstorms (not till evening I think).

Anybody else thinking about going? Al L. said that Victoria is a good spot for S-SW on Allatoona. Old Hwy 41 is good too but it won't open till March 12.

I checked the web site for Lanier. Which of the following is the best location on Lanier for S-SW?

SW-Van Pugh South
SW, W-Sunrise Cove
SW, NE-Two Mile Creek
NE, E, SE, S-Vann's Tavern

Bill

P.S.-Saturday looks like a good Van Pugh day!

Were is that spot? I've never been there.

Randy,
Never been to the launch site at Victoria but I pass the entrance all the time. IF you keep going down Bells Ferry, Victoria will be on your left. I think it is just past Hobgood Park.

Hey,

I checked with the COE project office for Allatoona this morning and confirmed that the Vitoria Day Use area is still closed for the season. It's supposed to open March 19. There's also a campground there that is open, but they probably won't let you in unless you have a campsite (they wouldn't at McKinney campground on Monday).

That appears to rule our Allatoona today. So, where's the best spot on Lanier for S-SW?

Hey,

The die have been cast. Randy and I are going to Vann's Tavern. Probably be there around 1:00-ish.

Well, we crapped out and got skunked. It was blowing decent at Hartsfield when I left and dropped off all the way to the lake. Vann's was glassy at 1:00. Checked out Two Mile Creek at 2:00 which was better, around 6 mph, but not enough to rig.

Looks like the wind started to kick in about 4:30, on the way back home. I stopped at Galts but it was no good with the SW wind. Lake Acworth seemed to have a pretty steady breeze, enough to plane up on my 8.5, but it was too late by then.

Randy, I checked out Shady Grove Road on the way back. It's no good. It leads to a campground and you have to be a camper to get in.
