Friday afternoon is looking promising with continuous wind (not just a couple of dots) & temp. in the low 50's. If the forecast holds, I plan to sail at Van Pugh. Please post if you can go.
The likely explanation for up and down wind on the NWS forecast for Friday is the incorporation of mountain waves in the forecast model. When the wind is NNW, mountains in NC & GA create a vertical oscillation to the wind resulting in the surface wind speed cycling up and down. The wind blows, drops off, and then increases again. I try to windsurf during the up cycle and return to shore and rest during the down cycle.
Nice day. Not too bad for NW. 15-25 with some pretty sharp gusts.
About seven of us out. Foilers on 4.2 4.7. Barrett held down 7 on fin, Chris P, smaller. JB wi get on 3 then 5 (iirc)
Shout out to Haizar who survived the gusts and got a few rides on foil.
Ahh I didn't get to talk to him but he looked like he was having a great time today. Good sailor.
He was. He was texting me while I was driving to the lake telling me how warm and windy it was down there. Something I didn't need to here on a 46 degree day.
He'll really appreciate the compliment. He started windsurfing not that many years ago, got frustrated with the transition to shortboarding and after watching a few of us having fun on foils, decided that was a more compelling (and easier) path. In that time, he's gone from somewhat of a newbie to a really solid foiler. I'm very happy for him and it's kind of you to say this.
Thank you aeroegnr, I did have a great time on this trip! I am sorry that we did not get a chance to talk. SV is one of my favorite places and with a great turnout yesterday! Hope to be back in March sometime .
My current intention is to sail Fri afternoon at VP
Some kind of wisenheimer at NWS
New instrumentation at the NWS
Anyway, easy solution. Rig up two sails. Come in an alternate periodically on the above suggested schedule.
Its a lot of dots and bars and thingys
And, cats. Lots of cats.

The NWS forecast now shows the wind being NW and steadier, so I plan to sail at Van Pugh arriving just after 1PM.

Langdon sent me this Friday from Dunedin. Fred Howard Park was reporting 30-37 but let up later
