Fred Howard Park 2/21-2/24

I'm heading down to Fred Howard Park (Tarpon Springs, 8 hour drive) this friday, 2/21. Danny Johnson, Jenny & friend, and Pip from Boston are going to be there and maybe a few others.  From there we're heading over to Merritt Island for the Mid Winters.  So, anyone interested, let me know or just come on down.  The current forecast looks good for Fri, Sat & Sun.  ;D

While it's easy to get to Tarpon Springs, finding Fred Howard park if you havent been there before is tricky. ???   So here's directions:

From Highway 19 go toward the gulf on Klosterman, then right on Carlton, left on Curlew, right on Florida, left on Sunset.  Park entrance is on the right.

Hey - Forecast does look good.  I'm interested. Does anybody have any ideas about reasonably priced camping in the area?  If so call me at 404-525-7190.

Chris,
Someone from the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce sent me a document via email with a list of camping areas in the area. He mentioned that there are no campgrounds very close to the park. Out of 7 locations, 4 of them are RV Parks. Do you want me to email it to you?

I think the list of RV parks should be posted on the web site for all those who Car Camp.

Getting There
From Channel marker #14, just west of Dunedin Causeway Bridge, take a 210 degrees on your compass approximately 1 mile. Follow the channel markers into Caladesi Island State Park marina.

Boaters will enjoy the 108-slip bayside marina, where overnight docking is permitted. Boaters should register before sunset. Picnic pavilions, bathhouses, and a park concession all make the visit more comfortable. Fishing, shelling, and nature studies are all ways to enjoy a visit to Caladesi Island State Park. Please stay off beach dunes. Please stay out of protected bird nesting and resting areas posted on island. Please do not disturb sea turtle nests, which are posted during nesting season.  8)

Re: Fred Howard Park 2/21-2/24

Acute We (Danny J & I)had wind on Sat, 4.0 on 80 liter board, it was cranking from the south, warm and sunny to start then storms came in around 4:00,wore a shorty, sailed on the north side of the causeway for awhile where it was still fairly flat and then on the south side of the causeway for some of the chop, very nice. Sunday was not much, today, monday is dead.  I'll head over to Merritt Island tomorrow. Pip stayed at Merritt Island Sat and sailed 6.5 & 5.8, I'm not saying he was scared, but?  :o
