Re: Foilstyle- windfoil freestyle

Interesting that they are on FoilXs, but the 105 version. I wonder how much the heft of the 145 would slow me down? But I think the lack of center rear is probably the biggest downside.

I'll have to try ducking on my foil gear soon. Wasn't as scary as I thought on fin, so I need to go for it. Also, their advice to go for a switch kono out of the start of a downwind 360 seems to match Andy's advice too. I had to look up videos to see what a switch kono looks like.

It looks really flashy with a lot of movement for what they say is the easiest Crazy

Also, this Horue video is 7 years old. Nuts. Some people have been killing it on foil for quite some time.

Hahaha, just took another, much closer look at that video.

He has his foot in the far-side strap going in, with a pretty wide strap setup. That makes me wonder...

That's a switch kono? Looks suspiciously like my first 500 foil jibe attempts. Except for the not swimming part at the end.

Go for the duckies. I'm getting them on starboard tack but the water got too cold for me to work on port. That'll have to wait until spring. It sounds like you have a good grasp of the hand work and that's 90% of it. You don't even have to carve much because you can exit dead downwind and then finish it

Thanks for posting the video!

Yeah that's a good point. On a fin, I ducked so early I thought I'd get yanked over, but it felt even easier than a jibe the regular way and I was just switch foot with the sail on the new tack with little drama.

I'd tried ducking while only barely in subplaning winds on fin and when I didn't throw it right, I'd get the sail ripped out of my hands. But the apparent wind of the planing duck was just so forgiving. The pro freestylers make the fully planing ducks look so easy, especially already in switch stance...

When you try a DW 360, it is quite easy to turn a not correctly managed backwinded sail into a massive pop, then just pretend you did it on purpose as a kono attempt...
that's stylish freestyle.

So, on my few DW 360 attempts, the backwinded sail blows me off the board. Any tips?

Same for me so far. But that's precisely when to claim a kono attempt. Biggrin
