I watched the wind all day. How did it go?

It was "boards gone wild"! I rigged my 5.2 (my smallest sail) and used the Hypersonic. Two quick out and backs convinced me to sit this one out, or wait for the wind to drop. Bill H. did better with his 4.75 and 100 liter board. Eventually I ran into Eddie, who lives by the lake on he loaned me his 4.0. (He didn't have the right size mast or boom. Mine were also too big, but closer than his, so we put his sail on my rig.) That was sailable, not easy by any stretch, but it wasn't terrible. Whenever you weren't in a hole, planning was pretty automatic. I sailed the Hypersonic, and it worked pretty well, despite not being a "small sail" board. I don't think a sinker like my Ecstasy would have been as easy to use given all the holes and lulls. Eddy sailed his Techno on a 5.2, but was overpowered, so he went to the 4.0 after I got tired. After I while I did some runs on the Techno, which worked pretty well, but seemed much bigger than I remembered (used to be my board, before I sold it to Eddie several years ago.) Finally, Dan showed up as I was packing up, and he tried to make a go of it on the Explosion, with his smallest sail - 5.6

Anyway, it was a pretty wild day. A 4.0 day is pretty rare. This was the windiest day I can ever remember at Galts, and I measured 21 gusting to 34. Tommorrow is supposed to be more of the same!

I could tell that it wouldn't be easy today because of the lulls, then getting slammed with the gusts... It doesn't seem like that much fun. More tomorrow, humm?

Well, I did make it out to Galts Saturday afternoon and no one was there except me, a phantom windsurfer with a blue board who must live in the Galts neighborhood and 2 sailboats. What a great session on a 5.8, flat water and not too gusty compared to Friday's reports. It was a sunny 71 degrees and hot - the water seems to be getting warmer.
Please Note: The gate guard is back but didn't charge me (whew!) because the park service does not have the permits ready yet. I would recommend that everyone be prepared to purchase their year pass next time out.
