Have fun out there and be safe! This is where I draw the line: WAY too cold. Will be heading for Banana River next Thursday for warmer winds... hopefully!
Say, just to clear things up - are you guys talking Saturday (the 11th) or Sunday (the 12th)? I was thinking Saturday. (Course Sunday is a possibility too.)

Sunday for me Randy if conditions are just right. I will not go if it is blowing 25-30 and in the mid 30s. If it is sunny, 15-20 and very high 30 I will be there.
Its almost noon, and no real sign of wind yet. I'll continue to keep watching, but looking like it might not happen.
BTW Emilio - I'm hoping you were thinking Galts (not Lanier) for kiting. Seems like Galts would be a perfect place at this time of year. Would love to see you at Galts.

I will like very much to explore Galts on a kite. I have never been there, but lots of people mention the potential. I am certainly interested. Any advice? where to go in Galts?. What is the best sailing conditions over there?
Galts is one of the larger areas of Lake Allatoona. Allatoona is a narrow lake that snakes around the foolthills for 20+ miles. Areas that are open enough to sail are few. Galts is near the yatch club and is considered the best area on the lake for sailing. You get fairly clean air when it is W, NW and E. Anything else isn't very good. East seems to be the direction for the steadiest wind. I know very little about kiting so I don't know what you need to be successfull. I do know that Galts can be very busy when the lake is full and the weather warms up. Your best bet is to ride over and check it out.
Another option would be Lake Acworth. It has a good place to rig and limits watercraft to small engines, paddle craft and Sailboats. It might be a good place to teach also. It is in downtown Acworth.
Randy could relate Galts to Lanier because he sails both.
The main advantage for Galts as far as kiting goes (based on my limited knowledge of kiting) is that at this time of year (really from Dec. to March or so) the water is pretty low. This exposes a lot of areas that would otherwise be under the water. Near the shore its also pretty shallow most places. It seems to me that this would make for good launching for a kite. Also the water is very flat compared to Lanier. Galts is also a smaller place, so you would not have that far to swim back should that become necessary.
The main problem with Galts is that its not as windy as Lanier, and quite gusty. Since kites fly up in the air above the surface, perhaps some of the gusts would be smoothed out and the wind strength would probably be better than down at lake level.
If the wind is from the e or ne, one could carry the gear upwind to the landbar by walking up the shore. Then you could sail downwind back to the park at Galts.
If the wind is NW, then there is a pretty nice run (though short by windsurfing standards) run from Galts over to the Yacht club.
The large flat beach area at Galts is much bigger than any comparable area at Lanier - but they are starting to fill the lake up, so you'll lose that in the next month or so. My suggestion would be to wait for a day when it seems maybe too windy or nasty for Lanier, and give Galts a try.
One pitfall of Galts is that wind tends to cycle up and down - it can be really windy for 15 minutes, then pretty weak for another 15 minutes. Not ideal for a sinker, but I've managed to sail my 84 lite board there w/o much trouble.
