El Yaque quick report + Kitesurfing Class

Hi All

I have just returned from 2 weeks trip to El Yaque, Margarita in Venezuela. Super windy all 15 days. The least amount of wind came one day at 14 knots, then the rest of the days the wind was on the 20s, picking at 25 knots one day....

El Yaque is still a windsurfing dominated place. I venture to say that the ratio of windsurfs to kites was 20/1. Some days you could see maybe 150-200 windsurfers in the water at one time. How do they don't crash into eachother is a mistery to myself. Pretty awesome too see some of the locals (and a few exports from Europe mostly), doing windsurf loops and all crazy radical moves just feets away from shore on maybe a foot or two of water depth. How can they get the windsurf to jump in flat water really defies my logic.

It was nice to see the growth of infrastructure in El Yaque and Coche on the last couple of years. From 3 star hotels, to the downright cheap room in a local fishing shack, and everything in between was possible. You can actually still go on the cheap to El Yaque, if you avoid staying within the turistic buble..

The nicest things to me (as a windsurfing observer) seemed to be:
(1) that you do not need to travel with your gear. You rent from the windsurfing clubs that have all gear, sizes, colors, brands, etc...already riged just waiting for your USD. Many times people come back in, and ask the clubs to change the sail, or the board, for one just a size bigger/smaller for the conditions of the hr....
(2) ...of course the consistency of the wind

I did brought with me couple of hotel names/rates etc. Feel free to ask me about rates, contacts, etc. Highly recommend the place to anybody looking for a place with consistant wind, tons of gear to sample, and tropical weather.
